Em is a Chinese- Australian visual designer, artist and tattooer, recently relocated to London from Naarm ‘Melbourne.’ They have tattooed for eight years alongside undertaking collaborative projects and co-running an arts space- Idle Time. 

Em Finucane acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation as sovereign custodians of the land on which we work, live, create and collaborate. Paying respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.

Growing Pains was a duo show, curated with, and showcasing works by Lotte Frances. The exhibition comprises of works produced concurrently across Melbourne, London and Barcelona. Growing Pains examines how queer and diasporic people build home within the body, to ask if the ‘home’ is a portable concept.

MAG DRAG 01 2023


MAG DRAG is a collaborative project with Eilish Hazell and Ruby Healey.

The first edition of MAG DRAG interviewed 12 Melbourne-based tattoo artists about their practice and ethos. MAG DRAG explores alternate pathways and DIY tattooing with the aim to demystify the artist and bridge artist/client connections outside of the Instagram algorithim.

The Body as a Space We Inhabit 2022

The Body as a Space We Inhabit was exhibited as part of Aeon Resurrection at Incinerator Gallery. The work explored themes of ritual, home as place, home as body in a diasporic context.

 A group show that explored transformation, resilience and healing within unstable environments heralding ways of co-habitation within cataclysmic moments of death and regeneration.

Artists include:

Idle Time Studio 2021-2024


Idle Time Studio was a warehouse creative space founded and co run with Ruby Healey over the years 2021-2024. Idle Time had permanent studio spaces and held creative workshops/events such as monthly life drawing sessions, art markets, open studios and tattoo flash events.

The Body as a Space We Inhabit (2) 2022

 
The Body as a Space We Inhabit is a publication made in conjuction with the sculptural work. The book photographs and interviews and  8 people about their tattoo collections, relationship to their body, agency and expression. The design plays with transparency and layering.
